1. FILE NAMES

  • 1.1. The name of the file should indicate its allocation in a definite way.
  • 1.2. Consecutive file versions should include in the name their assignment: v1, v2, v2...
  • 1.3. In the file name it is not allowed to include Polish signs, blank spaces and special characters (* > ! ? < : / \ etc.). It is only permitted to use the underscore _.

2. GRAPHIC LAYOUT

  • 2.1. Each page should have 5 mm bleeds on each side.
  • 2.2. The document should be centered in postscript page.
  • 2.3. The format should be defined by the cutting line.
  • 2.4. In the PDF production file Trim Box should be set properly - it has to be compatible with net page size or the die-cut.
  • 2.5. Important graphic and text elements should be placed at least 5 mm from the page edge.
  • 2.6. In case of perfect binding it is necessary that the first and the last page of the block as well as 2nd and 3rd page of the cover will be glued on ca. 6 mm from the spine due to side gluing which will result in smaller effective spread format.
  • 2.7. In the saddle-stitched binding section quires may stick out. Inside sections may move further from the spine depending on paper weight and the number of the sections. Such a situation decreases effective page size and moves graphic contents which may even lead to cutting off graphic elements positioned next to the cutting line. In order to prevent it graphic elements (i.e. pages) should not be placed close to the outside margin.
  • 2.8. Minimal text size printed with one color should be:
    • for one-element typeface 6 pt
    • for two-element typeface 7 pt
Minimal print text size with more than one color or in contrast is:
    • for one-element typeface 8 pt
    • for two-element typeface 10 pt
  • 2.9. The minimal possible line thickness is 0.25 pt. Lines in contrast or in more than one color should not be thinner than 0.75 pt.
  • 2.10. Black texts smaller than 24 points must consist of C0 M0 Y0 K100 and must be overprinted (Overprint).
  • 2.11. Recommended pictures’ resolution is 300 dpi. Minimal resolution providing high print quality is 240 dpi.
  • 2.12. If there is a die-cut, partial varnish or embossing they should be all prepared as an additional color (spot) with overprint function on.

3. SEPARATION

  • 3.1. All graphic elements must be prepared in CMYK color system. Other color systems such as RGB or Lab should not be used.
  • 3.2. In order to generate CMYK separation it is requested to use ICC profile adjusted to the paper type a particular work is to be printed on.
  • We recommend the following ICC profiles:
    • ISOcoated_v2_eci.icc (for coated papers)
    • ISOcoated_v2_300_eci.icc (for coated cardboards such as GC1 or GC2
    • ISOuncoated.icc (for non-coated or offset papers)
  • 3.3. Maximum paint coverage (TIL) should not exceed
    • 330% - for coated papers,
    • 300% (coated page), 250% (non-coated page) - for cardboards such as GC1 or GC2,
    • 280% - for non-coated papers (offset)
  • 3.4. To achieve deeper black color in tint it should be processed from four CMYK colors. It is recommended that is consists ofC60 M50 Y50 K100 for coated papers and C50 M40 Y40 K100 for uncoated (offset) papers.
  • 3.5. In order to avoid inaccuracy in fitting trapping should be used (minimal covercolors by colors). Recommended trapping value is 0.05 mm (0.144 pt). In case of text in contrast on a black background from four CMYK colors it is recommended to use trapping for CMYK colors of a value of 0.17 mm (0.5 pt).

4. FILES GENERATING

  • 4.1 Pages should be prepared in a form of files:
    • PDF 1.4 – 1.6 (Acrobat 5-7)
    • PDF/X-1a:2001
  • 4.2. We prefer portrait composite-PDFs in 1:1 scale.
  • 4.3. Due to often necessity to correct files and to properly prepare the files for print we also advise to provide an open format files. We accept files from the following programs:
    • Adobe Illustrator CS6 - it is requested to change the fonts to curves and include all graphic elements (bitmaps, logotypes) used in the work,
    • Adobe InDesign CS6 - it is requested to provide a package including InDesign file, used fonts and all graphic elements (bitmaps, logotypes) used in the work, (File-->Package)
    • Quark Xpress 8 - it is requested to provide a Quark Xpress file, used fonts and all graphic elements (bitmaps, logotypes) used in the work, (File-->Collect for Output).
